January 30th 2008 Day 2 Later

Another thing that we found out today is that they have this odd Australian/ British accent.

Top 5 Weird things seen today:
1 way too many speedos
2 man with tramp stamp
3 apple bottom jeans woman
4 The wood zoo
5 Beggar Woman (that kate fell for)

Tonight we invited over the girls from Annies Cove and hopefully we will be going to pick and pay. I am already hungry.

This place is amazing I wish I could have shared it with Cubby, he would have really enjoyed the trees. Plus he would love the food here because it is all fresh and basically no preservatives. We ate at Nandos today which is a chicken place sort of similar to applebees. I think I might buy some sauce to bring to cubby he would love it.

We also went to an internet cafe because we needed to tell our parents that we made it here okay. Hopfully we will get internet soon. I also home we get cell phones tonight.

But, when we went to the pick'n'pay we ran nto our N. Carolina friends. --- PS. I still spent 30 dollars on food. SUCK.

January 30th 2008 Day 2

Anyways, where I left off we got on the plane to PE and off and met some nice surfer boys from n. Carolina (who knew that we would hang out with them the entire time that we were there) Who were also studying abroad. After that plans to go to Annies Cove were foiled by camel toe who got us a flat at langerry. which we would have to pay for anyways. So we went there instead, and basically went to sleep. So finally I drugged my self up and floated off to sleep. In the morning we woke up to a crabby note from cameltoe. and decided to try and get some money.

Kate and I walked forever and found this boardwalk place and they have a bunch of food places on the way were ran into Toby Joes ( soon to be our favorite place to go out) and a bunch of other places. By the way the entire time we were walking along the beautiful beach. On the way after Kate got some cash some lady came up beggin g and asked us for some I had none and would have said not anyways but kate gave her 20 Rand which is about 3 bones American she told us she was robbed and clearly the guy in the store knew that she was bothering us and told her to go away.

January 28th 2009 Day 1

Right now I am sitting in the Joburg airport where I have been for three hours waiting for our flight. But, at least so far we have not missed one. We started out monday morning at about 8 then got on a flight with 6 saint Bens girls. Only Kate and I are living at Langarry. We made it to washington Dulles at about 2 after 2 hours we had lunch at Harrys where the waitress thought we were hilarious, and knew that we were going to eat alot so she brought out 2 loaves of bread right away. I had this amazing brie and chicken sandwich that cubby would have appreciated. We then finally boarded the flight to Jo burg and found out that we would be riding a hovercraft as kate called it. but really they were these weird car things. Kate was tired of waiting for it so she said "lets hover this craft"

Drawing of HoverCraft

Finally we got on the plane of death. I never want to be on a plane for 15 hours ever again. I am dreading the ride back home. At least there were some good movies to watch and that passed a good amount of time. But. I did not sleep well at all.. the plane was crowded and very uncomfortable. The meals were subpar also. We finally got to JO Burg swelled feet and all, and I am sitting at gate c-9 waiting for another 2 hour flight then off to meet camel toe.

What happens when you get back....

I miss South Africa... Who knew I would want to go back this much?
It is strange having a new group over there and looking at their pictures thinking I did that or why didn't we get to do that. It is sad to see they get to do things that we never did because of our director. They are going to have an awesome time. I saw pictures up from J-bay this week and it was extremely depressing but, I still feel that I had much more fun than they did.
Catie just sent me pictures from the trip that were hidden and it made my month. I cannot believe the things that we did and the people that we met.

I hope that I win some contest or money or something so I am able to afford a plane ticket over there because I love it so much. I wouldn't mind living there for a year teaching English or hanging out at the Haven with Sinalo.

I was so happy to see that someone put pictures up of him, he looked healthy. I wonder if he is talking now that his ears should be fixed. Maybe one day I can help him get into Saint Johns.

Anyways, I would like to post some of my experiences on here in the future. Just to have it. To look back at it. Because they were the best times of my life.

J-Bay

This weekend a group of 11 of us headed to Jeffery's Bay. We stayed at the Island Vibe in a dorm for 12 people without a lock on it.... (crazy) It was alot of fun. On friday we went Sandboarding and that was a ton of fun. I didnt even fall too many times. Brady would have loved it! The beach by where we went was so pretty. Then on saturday morning, at 9 we had surfing lessons with Martin. I learned alot and even learned how to surf because I got up several times (that was unexpected). I think Martin was even a bit impressed. We spent the whole day at the beach and then went out for dinner that night. After that we hung out at the bar with the Germans and some boys from St. Cloud that we know from Annies Cove and of course our surf instuctor and ended up staying up until 4;30 just chatting it up with the locals. Man. those German guys like their Beer.

This week it was back to classes. But next week we are going to Cape-Town and hitting some stops on the Garden route on our way back. I really have no ideas of any details of what we are going to be doing so I am just going to home for the best. But, I will be bungie jumping (if I can afford it).

By the way, I found out that you can send me packages or letters to:

Alex Haider Flat 11
Langarry Flats
31 Beach Road
Humewood, Port Elizabeth 6001
South Africa

If you do decide to send me something. Send it soon because I have no idea when I am going to get it. Grandma, Gina, Cheryl, Cubby's Parents, Mom Dad and Brady should be getting postcards sometime from me. I sent them awhile ago but you never know about things in SA.
If anyone else would like me to send them a post card just send me your adress. I only had those ones when I left.
Anywho, when I load some pictures on my computer I will put them up!
I have some sweet photos of the place we stayed and me surfing.
